Looking out for each other — safety tips, Neighbourhood Watch, and who to call.

Community security cameras

Outside of gated communities, Westshore is arguably one of the most closely monitored neighbourhoods in New Zealand. Nine high-quality security cameras are strategically positioned at entry and exit points and other key locations, helping identify illegal driving, suspicious behaviour, and criminal activity.

Established as a Westshore Community Association initiative, the camera network has been funded and is supported by local residents and operates in partnership with New Zealand Police, with one simple goal—to help keep Westshore a safe place to live.

The success of the system is the result of a dedicated community effort. Residents, technicians, volunteer monitors, and Police work together to identify and report suspicious activity. Volunteer monitors regularly review footage, record observations in a real-time database, and report incidents when required.

Residents also play an important role. If you see anything suspicious, please report it to the dedicated community security email: security@westshorenapier.nz

Westshore's reputation as a safe, supportive community is built on people looking out for one another and we owe much to everyone who contributes their time and effort to keeping our neighbourhood safe.

Home & personal safety tips

Keep homes and vehicles locked, even when you're home. Keep valuables out of sight. Know your neighbours and their routines. Trim hedges and improve lighting around entry points. At the beach, swim between the flags where marked and never swim alone.
